PLC Facilities

Our Positive Living Centre location at Glandore provides a safe and supportive environment to meet other HIV positive people, talk with our Health Promotion Officers about personal wellbeing, HIV treatments and/or clinical issues, pursue individual health research, just relax or even access our complementary therapies services. The HIV Women’s Project holds meeting and activities on site for positive women throughout the year.

On site at Glandore we run an emergency food store called The HIVE (run by volunteers), a Clean Needle Program (CNP), No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) and assist with access to the Red Ribbon Bobby Goldsmith Fund (RRGBF).

The HIVE

The HIVE provides emergency food relief to people living with HIV/AIDS in South Australia who are experiencing financial hardship. To access the HIVE you need to be registered as a Full Member with Positive Life SA and provide us with a copy of a current Health Care Card (aka Pensioner Concession Card).

The HIVE is made possible through the generous support of doners. Particular thanks go to Community Benefits SA, Executive Trustees and ACSA and the AIDS Trust of Australia.

Red Ribbon Bobby Goldsmith Fund (RRBGF)

The Red Ribbon Bobby Goldsmith Fund provides financial assistance with medical needs to HIV+ people in South Australia experiencing financial hardship. The fund was previously administered by the AIDS Council of South Australia (ACSA) and is now run by Positive Life SA. Requests for financial assistance can be made through Positive Life SA's Reception & Information Officer.

N.B. Currently there are only enough funds for Positive Life SA to provide financial assistance for Ambulance Cover, we are seeking sponsorship opportunities so that we can provide assistance for other medical needs, including HIV treatments, in the future. To access the fund you need to provide Positive Life SA with a copy of your current Health Care Card (aka Pensioner Concession Card).

Complementary Therapies

Positive Life SA runs a Complementary Therapies Clinic staffed by trained practitioners who generously give of there time to provide therapies free of charge to HIV positive people and those affected. Therapies available generally include massage and spiritual healing though vary from time to time. Small Loans Program

The Small Loans Program can provide up to a maximum of twenty dollars to assist HIV positive members through to their next payday when it is expected the loan will be repaid.  There is a limited amount of money available to this program and its ongoing viability is dependent upon people repaying their loans promptly.

No Interest Loans Scheme®

NILS® offers HIV positive people on low incomes the opportunity to access credit for essential household items, vet bills or medical items without any fees, charges or interest payments.  When a borrower makes a repayment to a NILS® program, funds are then available as a loan for someone else in the community.
NILS® is not for emergency relief, bond or rent money, living expenses or debt repayment.

NILS® provided by Positive Life SA are available for:

Household goods (up to $1000)

Vet Procedures (up to $500)

Medical Items (up to $500)

Vitamin Co-op

Positive Life SA has an account with Bettalife SA to purchase Vitamins and related products at wholesale prices for sale (at no added cost) through our Vitamin Co-op. The Vitamin Co-op is available for all clients, volunteers and staff.

Positive Life SA  staff cannot advise you on your vitamin requirements.  We advise that you speak to your HIV treating Health Care provider to ascertain if vitamin supplementation may be beneficial.

Steps To Ordering Vitamins

  1. Vitamin orders must be placed with Receptionist.
  2. You will need to know the brand, dosage and quantity of product you wish to order.
  3. Product catalogues are available through the  Reception & Information Officer.
  4. Certain vitamins are not available without a GP prescription. (rules of distributing companies).
  5. When you place the order a price will be quoted for you.  Payment can be made by cash or cheque.
  6. Upon paying the quoted amount a receipt will be issued and you can collect your vitamins from Reception.
  7. Vitamins cannot be obtained without paying first, sorry no credit.
  8. You will be notified when your order is ready to be collected.
