PLWHA (SA) Inc is a community-based organisation that receives limited government funding. The role of Volunteers is critical to our ability to offer and sustain good services to our HIV+ and affected community.

 

PLWHA (SA) relies heavily on its teams of reliable, dedicated volunteers & more are always welcome.

Roles of Volunteers

PLWHA (SA) Inc holds our Volunteers in high regard and greatly appreciate their contribution.

Our aim is to place Volunteers in positions where their energy, creativity and abilities will be best invested and where they will gain the most satisfaction.

As a Volunteer, you can be assured that you are a worthwhile and valued contributor to People Living with HIV/AIDS (SA) Inc.
As a general rule, Volunteers are only permitted to volunteer for a maximum of one day per week. We encourage you to be realistic in terms of how much time you think you can contribute.

What qualities do I need?

Do you have:

  • Good communication skills?
  • The ability to cope with illness and incapacity in others?
  • Preparedness to face grief and loss in others and oneself?
  • Ability to work in a team?
  • Openness to discuss issues around sexuality and injecting drug use?
  • Ability to treat information confidentially?

Expectations:

The most important expectations of our Volunteers are:

  • They observe confidentiality in all areas of their work
  • They are respectful of fellow workers and Clients of the Centre
  • They are aware of the policies that govern PLWHA (SA) Inc.

Clinic

Complementary therapies are offered at the PLC for eligible HIV Positive People. Therapies can include:

  • Massage
  • Spiritual Healing
  • Reiki
  • Reflexology
  • Chi Nei Tsang
  • Aromatherapy
  • Relaxation and Meditation
Volunteers must be qualified in their area of service.

Transport

Transportation (using organisation vehicles) is provided for eligible HIV Positive People to and from medical, dental appointments, and for social and peer support.

Do you have;

  • A good knowledge of the Adelaide Metropolitan area.

  • A good knowledge of the South Australian Road Rules.

  • A current South Australian Driver’s License.

Kitchen

Every Friday a cooked lunch is provided for Clients of the Centre as a means to meet and socialise.

A Volunteer’s role could involve:

  • Welcoming
  • Purchasing of the food
  • Preparation of food at the Centre
  • Set up
  • Clean up

 

Other

Perhaps you are just looking to ‘help out’ in some way. There are other less formal ways you can be involved with PLWHA (SA) Inc, such as individual tutoring, doing odd jobs, cleaning etc. Just ask how you can help!
