Our Mission Statement
Our organisations mission is “to improve the quality of life for all people living with HIV/AIDS”.
Our Vision
CORE ROLE of the Positive Speakers Bureau
The role of speakers within the PSB is to promote prevention to reduce HIV transmission through
v Sharing their personal story and the reality of living with HIV/AIDS
v Providing relevant information where appropriate and requested
v Challenging myths and preconceptions about HIV/AIDS to reduce stigma and discrimination.
Why We Need To Get the Message Out
As long as infection rates continue to rise we have a responsibility to address the stigma, fear and discrimination that surrounds HIV/AIDS. With our speaking engagements, we believe we can achieve this goal.

POSITIVE SPEAKERS BUREAU PROTOCOL
Please be aware that confidentiality is very important to the HIV Positive Speakers.
HIV positive speakers can have a significant and powerful impact on session participants. As HIV is often not talked about openly, be aware that one or more members of your group may have a loved one who is positive, information that they have been unable to share.
To ensure that HIV positive speakers are treated with respect and to ensure you program is more effective, please consider the following points:
1. The HIV positive speakers need to be aware of who is in your group. Let them know prior to the session the nature of the group and the context in which the session will happen.
2. Prepare participants in the session by conducting discussion prior to the arrival of the speaker, about what to expect, and what questions they would like to ask. It is important to allow an opportunity to clarify what audience members want to know and to hear what others want to know.
The HIV speaker may choose to begin the session by telling their story or by allowing the group to ask questions.
